Post 10: English Study Challenges

Regarding the experience of learning English at university, I would start by saying that it is not that easy. Firstly, because due to the demanding workloads of my other subject I am not able to focus on my English as I wished. It tends to be the case that I end up leaving my English assignments to last meaning due to the workload of my other subjects. This means that my learning process is hindered and it ends up become a problem for me, resulting on more stress. Also, as there isn’t enough time to practice outside the classroom, the two-hour long lesson per week becomes the only study setting, thus making the learning process even more difficult. However, I feel like I’ve been lucky enough to have very good teachers throughout the four English levels who have encouraged me to push forward and also helped me to find alternative ways for learning in order to do it by myself as I’m not always able to attend lessons. In addition, practicing my written English doing things like writi...

Post 9: Changes to my study program

First of all, I’d reduce the workload as it tends to be way too overwhelming, which it’s not good at all for our mental health. Also, I’d ensure that everything is well organized, as my years at university have showed me how the subjects are not properly planned, which turns everything even more stressful. In addition, I would erase the attendance requirement, because it doesn’t take into account that for some people (like me) doing work at home can be even more productive that attending a lesson that is not always useful for us, in terms of our interests and abilities. Also, some of us have other responsibilities outside university, such as having a job, so that means that sometimes we can’t attend a lesson. This why there should be more flexibility on this aspect. On another note, instead of adding more and more concrete blocks near the facilities, I’d make sure that there are enough green areas on campus. This would turn the facilities into a much more welcoming space. Also, I...

Before studying sociology, I studied Law at the University of Talca. It was very different from now, both teachers and my classmates were different and the university campus was beautiful, full of green areas, grass and trees. However, I always felt like something was missing, it wasn’t a fulfilling experience. I felt like the only thing I was doing was memorizing texts instead of actually reflecting on the meaning behind them. I felt really empty. I continued studying that degree for almost four years (three and a half to be exactly), until I finally decided to leave and prepare myself to do the PSU again and start a sociology degree. Currently, I’m on the fifth year of my sociology degree in Santiago, and I think that dropping out of Law to do Sociology instead was a very good decision. However, I also feel a bit disappointed with this degree when knowing how hard it will be to find a good job. I addition to this, I am now aware that there are plenty of others things I love to do,...

GPOY, Gratuitous Picture Of Yourself: Sofiithax & Karinithax

Imagen
This picture is from the day my friend and I were going to shave our heads instead of doing our homework and studying for the exams. We locked ourselves in the university’s toilets to do it, and as we waited for the hair clipper machine to be ready (as it was an electric machine, we had to wait until its battery was full), we started talking about fashion trends and its changes through the years. We were thinking back to our adolescence, remembering when the so called urban tribes and fotolog were a thing. We laughed and talked about the emos, gothics and the well- known pokemones. Both of us used to identify as emos back in the day, showing off the typical emo-fringe. That’s when we tried to imitate that look, trying to pull out the fringe again and we started posing and taking pictures. That’s why we also added our emo nicknames to the picture above. It was really funny, because we also look very young in the pictures, as if we were fifteen again and not in our twenties. We also add...
